World TB Day

Catholic Health Association of India (Project Axshya) organized an awareness program in the Central Prison Kannur. It is the oldest jail building built by British government. There are almost 920 inmates living in different blocks. (900 males and20 female)There are eleven blocks all together and separate division for females. It includes people for life imprisonment and other punishment.

Project Axshya with the help of  District TB Officer and other supporting staff organized an awareness program for the Jail Inmates. The program was organzed with the help of Welfare officer of the Jail and other Jail officals. Around 400 participants were there for the awareness program. An IEC Display was organzied in the Jail with the help of Jail authorities and other staff. The program started with the welcome speech by Mr Mukesh ,presidential address by Dr Padmanabhan, inauguration by DTO, felicitation by Mr Umesh and vote of thanks by Mr Tomy. Soon after the formal function, began the sessions by Dr Padmanabhan and he talked about every aspects regarding TB. He carried out the session with the help of presentation and showed colorful videos like Belgaum Bhai and other documentary films etc. We used projector and other tools to convey the messages more vivid and useful manner. After the session, Mr Umesh talked about the problems of smoking.. Also there was a separate session for doubts, clarifications etc.The programme got over by 1 0 clock and in the conclusion the DTO specifically talked about sputum examination and avail and utilize the services of our DMC. Also there was an experience sharing from one of the inmates and he explained how he overcame from smoking behavior. We could display our patient charter in every blocks and gave them to the welfare officer, also we could dissimilate posters, pictures etc.
