MARCH-24, WORLD TB DAY, India targets to detect 90% of TB cases and successfully treat 90% by 2015



March 24 will mark World TB Day, the day in 1882 when Dr. Robert Koch discovered the cause of tuberculosis, an airborne infectious disease spread through coughs and sneezes. Today, the TB pandemic continues to rage in the developing world and kills 1.4 million people each year. The disease remains the second-leading infectious disease killer in the world, directly behind HIV.

World TB day was celebrated by the MBBS/BDS and School of Nursing of IG Medical College Shimla along with Collaboration with State Task Force RNTCP Himachal Pradesh.The Theme  for This Year was “Stop TB in my life Time”The event was organised by the Department of Community Medicine IG Medical College Shimla.

Following Events were Obsered;

1 Awareness Rally by the  more than 350 Students of MBBS,BDS & College of Nursing IG Medical College from the IG Hospital to Different parts of the Shimla.The Rally was Flagged off by Principal IG Medical College Shimla.Chairman State task force RNTCP,State Tuberculosis officer Dr Gupta,Prof & Head Department Dr SR Mazta,Principal Dental College Dr Luthra,Princiapl Nursing College Mrs Krishana Chauhan,Senior Medical Supritendant Dr KS Rana ,Dr Malhotra DTO Shimla along with Faculty from these institutions were present on the occasion.Dr Anmol Gupta Nodal Person For the Above Events told that the Objective of World TB day celebration to create awareness among general masses that this disease is now totally curable and Drugs are being distributed free of cost all hospitals of Himachal Pradesh
